Chakra Guide · Guided Meditation

A complete guided meditation, written out word for word — settle, travel from root to crown, and close. Read it slowly, record it in your own voice, or let our app guide you with eyes closed.

There are hundreds of articles explaining what chakra meditation is. This is not one of them — this is the meditation itself, written out word for word, so you can practice right now. It follows the classic root-to-crown structure: one minute to settle, about a minute at each of the seven chakras, and a quiet close.

Three ways to use this script:

  • Read along, slowly. Keep your eyes soft, read a paragraph, close your eyes and do it, then read the next. Slower than feels natural is the right speed.
  • Record it in your own voice. Read at a calm, unhurried pace — around 100 words per minute — honoring every pause marker. Your own voice is surprisingly powerful as a guide. (Yes, you have our blessing to record this for personal use.)
  • Listen, guided. This meditation is available as guided audio in our free Self Healing app — the easiest option, since your eyes stay closed from the first breath to the last.

Before you begin

Find ten minutes where you won’t be disturbed — phone on silent, out of reach. Sit on a chair with both feet flat on the floor, or cross-legged on a cushion, spine comfortably tall, hands resting on your thighs. Lying down is fine for evening practice if you can stay awake. There is nothing to get right and nothing to achieve; you are simply going to visit seven places in your body, each with a color and a phrase, and see what you notice.

Pacing note Each (pause) is two to three slow breaths. Where the script says (long pause), allow five or more. The words are the smaller half of this meditation — the pauses are where it happens.
0:00 – 1:00

Settle

Let your eyes close, or lower your gaze to the floor. (pause)

Take a slow breath in through the nose… and let it go, long and easy, through the mouth. (pause) Again — breathe in… and release. With this exhale, let the shoulders drop away from the ears. (pause)

One more — breathe in… and out. Let the day you’ve had, and the day still to come, wait outside this room. For the next ten minutes, there is nowhere else to be. (long pause)

Now let the breath find its own natural rhythm. And bring your attention all the way down, to the base of your spine.

1:00 – 2:00

Root — Red

At the base of the spine, imagine a small, warm glow of deep red light — steady, like an ember that has burned all night and will burn all day. (pause)

With each breath in, the red glow grows a little warmer, a little steadier. With each breath out, feel your weight settle downward — into the chair, into the floor, into the earth that holds everything. (pause)

Silently, in your own mind, repeat:

I am safe. I am supported. I belong here.

(long pause) And when you’re ready, let your attention rise, gently, to the space just below your navel.

2:00 – 3:00

Sacral — Orange

In the lower belly, picture a soft orange light — warm and fluid, like the last color of a sunset moving on slow water. (pause)

This is the home of your creativity, your feeling, your capacity for joy. You don’t need to force anything here. Just let the orange light sway gently with the breath, the way water moves. (pause)

I allow myself to feel, to create, and to enjoy.

(long pause) Now let the attention rise again, to the space just above the navel.

3:00 – 4:00

Solar Plexus — Yellow

Above the navel, imagine a small golden sun — bright, quiet, certain. Your own inner sun. (pause)

With each inhale, it glows a little brighter. Feel how the spine lifts, almost by itself, as if the light were gently straightening you from within. This is your confidence — not loud, simply present. (pause)

I am capable. I trust my decisions.

(long pause) And rising again — bring your attention to the center of your chest.

4:00 – 5:00

Heart — Green

In the middle of the chest, picture a soft green light — the green of leaves with sun behind them, alive and calm at once. (pause)

With every exhale, let the green light expand a little — first filling the chest… then, if it wants to, reaching just beyond you. Include yourself in its warmth. You are not only the one who gives care — you are allowed to receive it. (pause)

I give and receive love freely.

(long pause) Gently now, let the attention rise to your throat.

5:00 – 6:00

Throat — Blue

At the throat, imagine a cool, clear blue light — the blue of an open sky, spacious and honest. (pause)

Notice if there is any tightness here, anything held back or unsaid — and with each exhale, let the blue light soften it, making room. Your voice has a right to exist. (pause)

I speak my truth with kindness.

(long pause) And let the attention float upward, to the point between your eyebrows.

6:00 – 7:00

Third Eye — Indigo

Between the eyebrows, picture a deep indigo light — the color of the sky just after sunset, when the first stars appear. (pause)

There is nothing to figure out here. Let the thinking mind rest, and simply look inward at that deep, quiet blue — the way you’d watch the dusk. Whatever you need to know can rise on its own, in its own time. (pause)

I trust my inner wisdom.

(long pause) And finally, bring your attention to the very top of your head.

7:00 – 8:00

Crown — Violet into White

At the crown of the head, imagine a violet light, delicate as the edge of a rainbow — and just above it, softening into pure white, like morning mist in sunlight. (pause)

Feel, or simply imagine, that this light connects you upward — to the sky, to life, to everything that is larger than this one busy day. You are a part of all of it. You always were. (pause)

I am connected to something greater than myself.

(long pause)

8:00 – 10:00

Integration & Close

Now, for a moment, sense all seven lights at once — a quiet column of color from the base of your spine to the crown of your head. Red… orange… yellow… green… blue… indigo… violet. All of them yours. All of them already there. (long pause)

Let the images dissolve now, and simply rest in whatever this feels like — no colors, no words, just you, breathing. (long pause)

Begin to deepen the breath. Feel the weight of your body on the chair, your feet on the floor. Wiggle your fingers and toes. (pause)

And when you’re ready — not before — let the eyes open softly. Carry this steadiness with you. The practice is complete.

After the meditation: three tips

  1. Note what you noticed. One line in a journal: which chakra felt warmest, which felt dim or hard to picture. Over a few weeks this becomes your personal map — the dim one is usually the one to give extra attention, and our blocked chakras guide tells you how.
  2. Don’t chase sensations. Some days you’ll feel warmth, tingling, deep calm; other days, nothing much. Both are fine. The practice works through repetition, not fireworks.
  3. Anchor it to something. Same time, same seat, every day — after brushing your teeth, before your first coffee. Ten minutes daily outperforms an hour on Sundays, every time.

If one chakra consistently feels faint, spend a week giving it a dedicated practice. For the root — the most common starting point — we’ve written a full toolkit: How to Open Your Root Chakra: 7 Simple Practices. And if you’d like to deepen the color visualizations, our visual guide to the chakra colors gives each hue its full meaning.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I do a chakra balancing meditation?

Daily is ideal — ten minutes a day does more than an hour once a month. Many practitioners do the full root-to-crown journey each morning or evening, and add a short dedicated session for one chakra when it needs extra care.

What is the best time of day for chakra meditation?

Whenever you’ll actually be consistent. Morning practice sets the day’s tone and is the easiest habit to keep; evening practice unwinds the day and can help sleep. Avoid your drowsiest hour — the visualizations need light attention.

Can I do this meditation lying down?

Yes, especially in the evening — lying on your back works well. Sitting with a tall spine keeps most people more alert. If you keep drifting off while lying down, either sit up or happily use it as a sleep meditation instead.

What if my mind wanders?

It will — every mind does. Noticing that you’ve wandered and returning to the current chakra’s color and breath is the meditation. Each return is a repetition that strengthens attention. No session is ruined by a busy mind.

Is this suitable for complete beginners?

Completely. Every step tells you where to place attention, what to imagine, and what to silently repeat. If reading and practicing at the same time feels clumsy, the guided audio version in our app removes even that — your eyes stay closed from start to finish.

A note on wellbeing: this meditation is offered as a tool for relaxation and self-reflection within a spiritual tradition. It is not a substitute for professional medical or mental health care. If difficult emotions arise strongly during practice, open your eyes, take a few ordinary breaths, and be gentle with yourself — and if they persist in daily life, please speak with a qualified professional.
